SOFTBALL

NPSA OPENING

RAINED OUT

THE New Providence Softball Association, under the new presidency of Desiree Taylor, had to postpone the start of its 2018 regular season in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday night due to the rain that left the field soaked.

The association was hoping to get started with the teams matched against each other in the men and women championship games from last year. The league has announced that they will play a double header on Tuesday, starting at 7pm, but it will be the regular scheduled games for that night. The games that were not played on Saturday will be made up at a later date.

This year, four teams will participate in the men’s division, including the C&S Hitmen, BTC Elite Warriors, Commando Security Truckers and the Chances Mighty Mitts. There are six ladies’ teams inclusive of the Sunshine Auto Wildcats, Johnson Lady Truckers, BTC Ladies, Hennessey Panthers, The Strykers and the Platinum Pool Lady Sharks.

Taylor, just the second woman president of the league, said she intends to honour persons who have contributed to the sport and have never been recognised and host a few tournaments during holiday weekends, and restart the junior programme over the summer for 4-6 weeks and restart the inter-island play against the Family Island teams.
