Doctors Hospital names new chief finance officer

Doctors Hospital has named former KPMG executive, Dennis Deveaux, as its chief financial officer.

“We are excited to have Dennis join the company, as we continue to grow and transform Doctors Hospital for the future,” said Charles Sealy, the BISX-listed healthcare provider’s chief executive.

“His strategic, financial management and analytical skills are exactly what is needed to help us continue to position Doctors Hospital as the premier healthcare institution in the region, making it a top choice for patients, skilled healthcare workers and physicians. We especially expect that Dennis will further enhance our capacity to continue to provide positive returns for shareholders.”

In his new role, Mr Deveaux will oversee the financial affairs and operations of Doctors Hospital. He will take charge of financial reporting/accounting, patient finance and insurance services.

He will also work with the hospital’s executive leadership team to plan, develop and implement growth strategies, and oversee the company’s management information services (IT) department. Mr Deveaux will also sit as an ex-officio member of the board’s finance/audit committee.

“I am pleased to join Doctors Hospital at such a dynamic time for healthcare in The Bahamas,” said Mr Deveaux. “Our patients expect a premium healthcare experience, which requires that we continue to make judicious and strategic investments in delivering high quality, technology-enabled care.

“As chief financial officer, the quality and safety of patient care will remain paramount as we seek strategic expansion opportunities in a wide range of areas, including advanced imaging, pain management, extended care and emergency pediatrics.”

Prior to joining Doctors Hospital, Mr Deveaux led KPMG’s Bahaman management consulting and data and analytics team. He directed a variety of large-scale and strategic engagements, including work in the public and private healthcare sector.

Mr Deveaux also previously worked at a director level for Toyota’s material handling business in the US, where he led the $3bn operational finance and accounting function, and had direct oversight for the division’s strategy development. He also lived in Japan for four years, where he led various planning activities on a global level.

Mr Deveaux holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration (finance concentration) from Fisk University, where he earned summa cum laude Latin honours. At Fisk, he also served as president of the Student Government Association and member of the 2004 University Board of Trustees - the first Bahamian to ever hold such a post.

He went on to earn a master of business administration (MBA), with an emphasis in international business, and a master of science degree in finance, both from the E Phillip Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
