A PAIR of Bahamian players faced off in non-conference play and another set a new career-high scoring mark to highlight action from throughout NCAA Division I.

Travis Munnings and his ULM Warhawks scored a 74-58 win over Nathan Bain and the Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, Louisiana, on Saturday.

Munnings finished with eight points, four assists and two steals while Bain struggled and fouled out in just 14 minutes.

The Warhawks led wire-to-wire and both teams are now 5-4 on the season.

“I’m really proud of our team,” ULM head coach Keith Richard said. “This is a great win for our team against a really talented team that’s picked to win the Southland Conference. We needed to beat a good team to feel good about ourselves. It’s an important win because I feel like we’re a good team. We did a lot of good things this afternoon. Once again, we played tremendous defence in the first half. We probably lead the country in first-half defence right now. The team also did a nice job with Travis (Munnings) and Andre (Washington) on the bench with two fouls each in the first half. Those two guys didn’t play very much in the first half, but yet we were able to build a 13-point halftime lead.

Shalonda Neely equaled her scoring career high for the second time this season with the Jacksonville Dolphins.

The junior center scored 14 points in the Dolphins’ 100-46 win over Edward Water College at Swisher Gymnasium in Jacksonville, Florida.

Neely was one of six Dolphins in double figures. She entered the season with a previous career high of 12. She previously scored 14 in a 68-58 win over in a 68-58 win over Savannah State on November 19.

Jaron Cornish and the Stony Brook Sea Wolves improved to 10-2 with a 74-68 win over Delaware yesterday afternoon at Island Federal Arena in New York.

Cornish finished with 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half en route to his fourth double figure scoring game of the season.

“We knew this was going to be a tough game. They are a very good team. We had a lot of respect for what they have done to this point. We did a really good job of following our game plan,” Sea Wolves Jeff Boals said, “Once again our guys were resilient. They bent but didn’t break and made a lot of game-winning plays. I’m really proud of our guys.”

Charles Bain finished with nine points and six rebounds in his Robert Morris Colonials’ 69-50 loss to Rider University at Alumni Gymnasium in Lawrenceville New Jersey.

Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the Ole Miss Rebels fell to 5-7 with an 80-71 loss to Lousiana Tech Saturday afternoon in Ruston, Louisiana.

“For this being our first road game, we just have some things we need to continue to work on,” she said, “I don’t think we weathered the storm well. We are still a work in progress and we have to get the team to fully buy-in to the gameplan. There were a lot of moments where we didn’t trust the gameplan and they were able to hurt us on the offensive end.”
