Grand Bahama hosts 'Labour On The Blocks' job fair

SOME 21 companies are expected to attend the 'Labour On The Blocks' job fair in Grand Bahama, which opens at 11am at the Susan J Wallace Park in Freeport today.

Minister of Labour Dion Foulkes will be in attendance to launch the initiative that aims to link job seekers with employers at the park on Columbus Drive and Nansen Avenue.

BTC, Aliv, Atlantis, Baha Mar, Freeport Shipping Services, Clear Blue, Polymers International, Stat Oil, Dolly Madison, Pelican Bay Hotel, the Freeport Container Port and many more companies will be in attendance.

Job seekers are asked to bring some form of identification with them, either a passport, NIB card, or voter’s card. They are also encouraged to have an email address, but it they do not have one the Ministry of Labour officers will create one for them.

Minister Foulkes stated that there is a strong possibility that persons attending the event may leave with a job.

The Ministry of Labour and the Department of Labour have held two successful Labour On The Blocks Job Fair in New Providence.

Mr Foulkes reported that the over 800 individuals have been employed, some of whom have been employed right on the spot. Persons attending will be registered in the Department of Labour’s data base.
