AK-47 rifles and ammo seized by police

POLICE seized two AK-47 rifles, dozens of rounds of ammunition and marijuana from a home on Market Street on Friday.

Shortly before 8am, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information, conducted a search of a home on Market Street and recovered the two high-power assault rifles, 71 rounds of ammunition, two pounds of marijuana and 15.4 pounds of hashish.

One adult male was taken into custody and is expected to be formally charged this week.

Police are also looking for a man who robbed a woman at gunpoint Friday night.

Shortly after 8pm, a woman had just arrived at her residence on Carmichael Road when she was approached by a man with a handgun, who stole her handbag containing cash and other items, before fleeing on foot.

Investigations are ongoing.

Hopefully the police would try trace these weapons to see how they got into the country.

There are over two thousand prisoners in US prisons who are now in their 60’s and 70’s who committed crimes as teenagers but were tried as adults. They were given life sentences without the possibility of parole. Lawyers sought to have the sentence of one such inmate, who is in his 70’s overturned. He was charged with killing a police officer when he was a teen. The judge decided he should stay in jail until his death. There are even many more inmates in their 40’s and 50’s who have been in jail since they were teenagers. Has society failed?

I would suggest that those firearms got in by boat, possibly by aircraft, doubt they swam in.
