LNG pipeline plan is madness

EDITOR, The Tribune.

NEW lower cost electricity generation the 80KW RFP at Blue Hill Road, I read with considerable interest that APD, Arawak Port Developments, are now part of the group headed by the US-based group who was close as a millimetre of getting the franchise of BEC from the PLP, New Fortress Group as seemingly the planned depot for LNG.

How the media did not pick up on this story is amazing - New Fortress APD plan to trench and put in place an LNG pipeline from Arawak Cay across the island to Blue Hill BP&L plant!

Imagine a gas pipeline through Chippingham - onto Oakes Field may be down Thompson Boulevard turning east onto Tonique Williams to Independence and south on Blue Hill!

Are these people totally out of their mind?

LNG is a gas which if it escapes does not rise unlike LP gas...if it explodes it explodes at a low level outward causing considerable explosion damage to any low lying building, etc…

I hope the Ministry of Works will immediately discount this proposal as a danger to the urban residential area across New Providence.

Many first world countries have gas whether lpg or lng piped all thru cities and communities! Our biggest problem is not allowing change. Look at our past, we bounce back and forth between plp and fnm. Where has this gotten our country?

Indeed .......... Anyone ever stopped to consider that a 100lb cooking gas tank is a BOMB??????? ............. And no-one complains about that industry????

It does not explode. It is more stable than LPG. Do your home work for God's sake.

If The this LNG proposal is approved i would think that all parties concerned including APD would see the wisdom in Bunkering the LNG distribution from clifton pier using the same route that BEC presently uses for their overhead high power distribution cables to the Bule Hills power station. This track would be the least developed route for the LNG pipeline thus eliminating the concern expressed to the areas mentioned in the letter above.. The LNG proposal has has many positive merits.

LNG is methane, and it rises, cooking gas as used in the Bahamas is propane, and it is heavier than air. LNG is much safer, any leak and the gas will rise.

Some people or so uninformed and so committed to finding something negative to write that the forget to learn the facts.

the old saying about keeping your mouth shut, versus opening it and proving you are stupid.

I was recently "schooled" by another commenter that the "D-Average" is actually a good thing and represents "satisfactory understanding of the material."

So "we good" in our dumbness. Relax.

Can't wait until there is a serious LNG gas leak, the wind is blowing in the right direction and the public garbage dump flares up again with hot cinders and ashes flying everywhere!
