Simonet teams up to host 2-day scouting tour

MAHERSHAL Simonet, an American professional basketball player who has played in 15 countries, will continue to lend his expertise to the local sporting community.

Simonet, who was introduced to the Bahamas last year as he began to sort out his roots, has teamed up with The Never Give Up Sports Club and coach Stanford Davis and the New Breed Sporting Family to host a two-day scouting tour.

The two-day event will be held at Doris Johnson High School March 9-10.

On the first day, Simonet, scouts and coaches out of Kansas will run clinics and also have open sessions where they will answer all questions about studying abroad.

On the final day, starting at 9am, a mini-tournament will be held as high school teams and any community groups are invited to bring their teams to display their skills in front of the visiting delegation. Simonet, who has worked out with a number of NBA teams, along with his guests, are trying to assist in getting as many student-athletes as possible off to school. The event has been endorsed by Shonel Ferguson, the Member of Parliament for Fox Hill, and Dr Jacinta Higgs, president of the Akhepran International Academy where Simonet has held a number of activities.
