A 19-YEAR-OLD mother of one was stabbed to death Thursday afternoon, the day after celebrating her birthday.
The victim, officially identified by police as Breanna Mackey of Palm Beach Street, was walking on Key West Street when a silver coloured Honda stopped next to her and three women got out of the vehicle.
The trio, armed with sharp objects, stabbed Mackey about the body before getting back into the vehicle and speeding off, police said. The victim was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead. The incident happened shortly before 6pm.
Five women and two men are in police custody in connection with the fatal stabbing. It marked the country's ninth homicide for the year.
This follows the murder of 35-year-old Chamico Pheron Mackey Wednesday night.
Mackey was sitting in the doorway of his home at Irish Spring Court and Plantol Street when two men, one with a firearm approached and shot him.
Police have no one in custody and are following no leads.
Authorities are appealing to the general public to come forward with information that could assist in solving this case.

In that case when Bahamians were eating flour pap, white grits, corned beef and cooking with lard our murder rates should have been higher. The inverse is true. When we ate worse people behaved better because they were not raised like animals. They had parents who cared and instilled the appropriate values in them. That is the missing factor in the crime equation, sensible parents!!

We are quick to say hang them. But, what of our society that raised them? What of our society that so lacks nurturing, caring, investing in our youth's upbringing, short-changing them on the vital resources deemed necessary for healthy growth? Why we wonder, does crime go up? Why we wonder is unemployment high? Why all the criticism of Bahamian society. But, the commenters in the paper apparently missed those glaring deficiencies. Let's just hang them, the truly Christian way.

Not in defense of murder or crime but The countries that put out travel warnings have 15 year old students shooting up and killing their school mates and young girls as young as 11 and 12 being molested and sexually assaulted by a trained and well respected athletic doctor. Hundreds of them molested, some hundreds of times. The point is crime is a universal problem. So no need to sit like you on jelly beans when pins and needles sticking you too.

As long as we keep beating the snot out of young kids under the guise "spar the rod " and teaching them physical violence solves a conflict our violent crime rate will continue to spiral upwards ,The Nordic countries where hitting/beating/spanking children is against the law have the lowest murder rates on the planet ,,proof is in the pudding ..We won,t learn though ,,I continue to hear daily ,,we need to beat these kids ,,no one beats there children anymore ,,as we beat the tar out of little children and continue to produce evermore violent anti social teenagers and young adults ,,proof is in the pudding

your rationale does not compute with reality. Most of the young men turning to criminal activity were raised by single parents where they were not beaten. in fact for many of them their first experience with violence and or physical abuse came from outside the home. school bullying, or even interaction with police. And don't forget black folk were beaten, mutilated, maimed and killed mercilessly during hundreds of years of slavery. Think that has anything to do with it?

single mothers don,t beat kids ,,????there are way too many studies that show beating kids leads to aggressive anti social young adults that turn to physical violence as conflict resolution ,,one of the last studies over 50 yrs and 100,000 kids ,,,,I,m not going to debate you ,,the facts,, studies ,,etc speak for themselves ,,our murder rate 35 per 100,000 grand ,,the Nordic countries below 3 per 100,000

BTW two more young men, including one who was apparently blind, were shot and killed by police last night. brings total to 5 in less than months. Is the murder count declining yet?

In any population regardless of country, race or religion about five percent of the population will be sociopaths. Sociopaths do not look or behave differently than anyone else except that they are often smarter than average and lack empathy, they can inflict pain and suffering on others without being troubled themselves by doing so. A sociopath will not usually know that he or she is a sociopath and they can be very successful particularly in those areas where being able to lie convincingly or being able to hurt people is useful. Think politicians, military and even the policeman putting the plastic bag over the suspects head to extract the confession. If sociopaths are well socialized and trained in how to behave from an early age then they do not pose a problem to society. Our society is not doing this for a number of reasons and you can read the results of this almost daily.

I don't know how you're doing this, but this crap was caused by the Medellin Cartel, sponsored by the Bahamian government. We caused all of this to happen. The US is trying to help us, yet you put blame on them. Cartel mind-control is real in the Bahamas.
