Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic second round suspended due to high winds

Due to high winds that buffeted Nassau and the Ocean Club Golf Course, second-round play at the 2018 Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic was suspended for the day at 8:39am. Wind speeds were sustained at 30-35 mph, with gusts in the low 40s, and are expected to remain the same throughout Friday.

“Yesterday we were able to play and complete the round, but we did have an isolated ball move here and there, but it wasn’t much and we could get it right back into play,” said Sue Witters, the LPGA’s vice president of Tour rules and competition. “This morning was a different story. The winds are up from what they were and we got to the point on 13 where we could not get a ball to stay at rest on the green.”

The second round will resume on Saturday at 7:30am, with afternoon tee times moved up 50 minutes. The first starting times for the afternoon wave will be 10:35am, with the last starting times at 12:03pm. Current weather forecasts predict morning winds of 25-32 mph, with gusts to 38 mph, and speeds are expected to slightly drop in the afternoon.

“Tomorrow hopefully will be more like yesterday,” Witters added. “The winds will come down a bit, and then Sunday is even better than that. Sunday should be out of the four days the least windy, but it will still be windy.”
