Police bullies

EDITOR, The Tribune.

AS a Bahamian, I was disgusted and saddened to read that a policeman shot a man’s dog for no reason.

If this is true, the police commissioner himself should investigate and dismiss this officer. If he can shoot a dog for no reason, he can shoot a human for no reason.

When encountering police officers, one can often detect a sense of hostility from them. Many of them are argumentative, unreasonable and unwilling to explain anything to you. Many of them also feel that they are above the law and that is why they treat people the way they do.

This is also why detectives beat suspects to force confessions out of them. This method doe not ensure that the right person is caught for a crime.

The time has come for police officers to be held accountable for everything they do. A pet should not be shot for no reason. This is another reason for all of the police force to hang their heads in shame. The more they do things like this, the lower public opinion of them falls.

Was the author present or did he/she read an official report of why the dog was shot, in order to come to the conclusion that it was for "no reason"? If not why is a letter about a speculation even printed in the newspaper? The author then uses that speculation to conflate multiple issues. Truly reflective of where our society is right now!
