Bahamas First in new Cayman HQ opening

Bahamas First Holdings has solidified its regional footprint by opening a new corporate headquarters for its subsidiary, Cayman First Insurance.

Patrick Ward, Bahamas First's group president and chief executive, Board members, management and employees were present to celebrate the opening of the Cayman First Centre, which represents a new home for its 34 year-old affiliate.

Cayman local government leaders including the acting governor, Franz Manderson, and Deputy Premier, Moses Kirkconnell, and industry representatives and clients were also in attendance.

Mr Ward said: "Cayman First Insurance Company was born out of the dynamic and pioneering vision of a group of Caymanians, who had a dream to create the first Caymanian-owned Class (A) insurance company.

"The company, which was launched in March 1984, was acquired by Bahamas First Holdings in 2010, and today is a significant part of the Bahamas First Group. We are extremely proud of our growth and success over the years, and see this new building as a prelude to our future growth and commitment to the Cayman market.

"Maintaining our 'First In Insurance' position calls for us to be a company with prudent risk management practices and financial integrity. Our track record in both areas is underscored by the company's financial strength rating of A- (Excellent), as recently affirmed by insurance rating and information agency, AM Best."

Mr Philip, Cayman First Insurance's managing director, told guests: "I am honoured by your presence this evening to share in the pride and accomplishment that we feel in marking the official opening of the new Cayman First Centre.

"This 27,000 square foot state-of-the-art office facility not only reflects our long-term commitment to this market but our core philosophy to provide our employees and clients with a modern, user-focused working and business environment."

Mr Philip was joined by Kathy Kirkconnell, wife of the deputy premier, and long-standing employee, Judy Campbell, Cayman First Insurance's vice-president of property and casualty insurance, for the official ribbon cutting. Guests were then led on a tour of the new corporate headquarters.
