Doctors Hospital elects new chair

Doctors Hospital Health System (DHHS) Board of Directors has elected Felix Stubbs as its new chairman with effect from June 20, 2018.

He replaces Joseph Krukowski, who retired from a post he held since 2003 following last Tuesday's Annual General Meeting (AGM).

"I thank Joe for his outstanding performance during these past 15 years, and congratulate him on his retirement," said Mr Stubbs. "His years as chairman of the Board at Doctors Hospital Health System have been marked by great success and efficiency.

"Everyone agrees that he possesses the rare combination of vision, fairness and understanding - crucial qualities for an effective leader. He has been an inspiration to me and will be missed. I thank Joe for all that he has done, and for the example that he set. Joe, best wishes for a happy and enjoyable retirement."

Mr Stubbs has served as the company's vice-chairman since joining the Board in 2003. He has also chaired the Board's finance committee.

"We thank Felix for his service, dedication and guidance to-date," said Dr Charles Diggiss, Doctors Hospital's president. "We look forward to working with him in his new capacity, and with the rest of the Board as we continue with the plans set out to ensure we remain the leaders in private healthcare in The Bahamas with the addition of new facilities and service lines that will provide added value to our patients as well as our shareholders."

Mr Stubbs is a former president and general manager of IBM Bahamas, a position he held for more than 32 years before choosing to take early retirement in 2014 so that he could devote more time to his community service obligations via Rotary.

He is a past president of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce; a former director of the Central Bank of the Bahamas; former chairman and director of the Grand Bahama Port Authority; a former director and committee chair of FamGuard Corporation; and served as director of the National Insurance Board (NIB) on three separate occasions, including a stint as chairman.

Mr Stubbs was chairman of the One Eleuthera Foundation, and has held numerous government positions, including director of the Urban Renewal Foundation and director of the Bahamas National Festival Commission.

He continues to serve on several non-government, civic and charitable committees, and helps to shape and implement strategic, policy, budgetary and fundraising plans. Currently, Mr Stubbs serves as chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board; chairman of the Bahamas Feeding Network; and is on the Boards of Directors for the PACE Foundation, the Chance Foundation, the Governor General Youth Awards Council and the Past President's Advisory Council of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation. He is also chairman for BAF Financial, a member of the Board of Directors of First Caribbean International Bank Bahamas, and holds a similar role with CIBC Trust Company (Bahamas).

Mr Stubbs is joined on the Doctors Hospital Board by vice-chairman, Wayde Christie; Barry Rassin; Dr Charles Diggiss; LeRoy Archer; Karen Carey; and Dr Barrett McCartney.
