JURORS in the double murder and armed robbery trial being held in the Supreme Court on Grand Bahama were taken on a site visit on Monday visiting several areas, including the murder scene in Deadman’s Reef.
The three accused men - Paul Belizaire, Devaughn Hall, and Kevin Dames – were also accompanied by their attorneys Geoffrey Farquharson, Jethlyn Burrows and Carlson Shurland, respectively.
Prosecutors Neil Brathwaite and Erica Kemp are appearing on behalf of the Crown. Justice Estelle Gray-Evans is presiding over the trial.
Barry and Sheena Johnson were discovered shot to death at their triplex apartment in Deadman’s Reef on September 12, 2015. It is alleged that four masked armed men robbed the couple of a set of keys and their GMC truck, which was later recovered by police.
The trial began last October. The prosecution has called several witnesses, including Allan Alcime and Virgil Hall, who were initially arrested and charged with the trio.
Both Alcime and Virgil Hall accepted plea deals offered by the Office of the Attorney General in exchange for them to testify as witnesses for the Crown. Both had testified under oath that they were with the accused men on the night in question in Deadman’s Reef when the couple was murdered.
The murder charges were withdrawn against the men, who pleaded guilty to armed robbery and are serving time in prison for the offence.
The trial continues.
