AFTER years of focusing on helping women achieve spiritual, economical and social success, New Image Ladies is now seeking to empower women when it comes to the physical as well.

To this end, the organisation is inviting the entire family to participate in its first ever Fit Fun walk and obstacle course, which is designed to inspire people to lead healthier lives. It will be held this Saturday at the Eastern Parade beginning at 5.30am.

The walk begins at the parade grounds and will take participants over the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge to Paradise Island, returning on the original bridge and then back to the parade grounds.

What makes this walkathon different from others is the aspect of the obstacle course. Participants will find themselves challenged to jump through tyres, crawl under ropes and tunnels, do push-ups, sit-ups, launches and tackle balance beams.

Tanya Sweeting, founder of organisation, said the event is open to the entire family.

"We aim to engage ladies and their families to participate in a fitness challenge of pushing yourself beyond the norm and accomplish something physically that may have never been done before... We started this mission of '242FIT' as an initiative together with the Healthy Bahamas Coalition, and so we encourage all to participate in this initiative in physical fitness," she said.

Ms Sweeting said one of the main reasons for hosting the event is to empower women to be successful in every area of their life, especially their health.

New Image is expected to maintain this Fit Fun walk and obstacle course as an annual event to promote physical success.

"We recognise that success achieved can be very short-lived if you are not in good health, and we are promoting health and fitness with the launch of this event and for the entire month of May," said Ms Sweeting.

"Already the management team of New Image has become aware of health and fitness improvements required in our own personal lives. We are hoping that the Bahamas and participants of this event will see the importance of living a healthier life because it can contribute to a longer, satisfied life. We are also hoping that persons will invest time and energy to participate in this Fit Fun walk and obstacle course event for their own physical improvement to success and enjoy doing so."
