The PM and Immigration

EDITOR, The Tribune.

IN less than one year the Prime Minister has made two appearances before Haitian congregations to address immigration issues he sees as important to them. The most recent meeting concerned shanty town residents, the vast majority of whom we are told, have legal residence status.

This leads me to believe that we do not have the problems with illegal immigrants in shantytowns and quite possibly in this country as we had previously thought.

One can only guess that if we do in fact have an illegal immigration problem as the PM himself previously stated we do, then they must be living in communities where they do not have illegal power hookups and are not toting water. Maybe they are hiding in gated communities, or quite possibly, all of those illegals left the country before his December 31st, 2017 deadline.

Whatever the case, it would be nice if the PM would consider having at least one such meeting with Bahamians about how he perceives immigration issues affect them. Being relatively fluent in Bahamian he should not need to speak through an interpreter.
