NPBA: Giants, buckets and stingers in win column

THE New Providence Basketball Association continued its regular season action with a triple header at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Saturday night as the Commonwealth Bank Giants, Aliv Buckets and PJ Stingers all emerged victorious.

The Giants held off the Discount Distributors Rockets 94-90, the Buckets dumped the Breezes High Flyers 97-93 and the Stingers stung the Fort Charlotte Defenders 125-74.

• Here's a summary of the games played:

Giants 94, Rockets 90

D'Shon Taylor went to the free throw line twice in the last 15 seconds and converted three of his four charity shots to propel Commonwealth Bank to victory. With 13 seconds left, he canned a pair of shots to put the Giants up for good 93-92 and with three seconds left, his first of two foul shots completed the final score.

Taylor finished with 26 points in 36 minutes and 13 seconds to pace the men's division one defending champions as he shot 9-of-27 from the field, 2-of-6 from the three-point line and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He also had nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block shot.

Michael Bain had 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals, Gameliel Rose had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jeffrey Henfield and Jackson Jacob added 11 and seven points respectively off the bench. Jacob also had seven rebounds.

In a losing effort, Georgio Walkes came off the bench with 15 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Selwyn McKenzie had 13 points with four rebounds, David Taylor 11 points and four rebounds, Lerecus Armbrister nine points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block and both Barry Carter and Lnydrick Storr helped out with eight points.

Commonwealth Bank led 21-10 after the first quarter, but Discount Distributors rebounded to tie the score 42-42 at the half. The Giants outscored the Rockets 26-22 in the third and they both scored 26 in the fourth, but Commonwealth Bank had the final say on the outcome.

Buckets 97, High Flyers 93

Aliv Bucket led the first three quarters, 24-21 at the end of the first, 44-35 at the half and 71-55 after three and they went on to seal the deal in the fourth as Dylan Musgrove pumped in 25 points to lead the attack. He shot 8-for-13 from the field and 9-for-12 from the foul line in 32:46 minutes. He also had eight rebounds, six assists, five steals and four block shots.

James Rolle had 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and as many steals, Anwar Neilly had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, Detarrio Thompson came off the bench with 15 points as well with three rebounds and Akeil Bullard had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Jeremy Neely exploded for a game high 28 points, six assists and five steals in a losing effort. Brendon Stubbs had 20 points off the bench, Shanton Pratt had 14 points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds, Dale Davis had eight points and eight rebounds, Dario Saunders had seven points, six steals, three assists and two rebounds and Justin Gardiner added six points and nine rebounds.

Stingers 125, Defenders 74

In what turned out to be a lopsided affair, PJ's opened a 28-10 first quarter lead that they extended to 55-38 at the half. By the end of the third, they increased their margin to 86-53. They used a 39-21 rout in the fourth to secure the rout.

Torrington Cox led a balanced scoring attack as he connected on 5-for-11 from the field, 3-for-7 from the three-point line and 9-for-9 from the foul line for a game high 22 points with 10 rebounds, three assists and as many steals.

Scottie Farrington had 17 points, four rebounds and three assists, Devon Ferguson came off the bench with 16 points, four steals and three assists, Craig Smith Jr had 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, Vernon Stubbs had nine points, three rebounds and two assists, Brian Bain also had nine points with three rebounds and two assists and Eugene Bain added seven points and five rebounds.

Leon Rahming had 19 points, four assists and steals and three rebounds to lead Fort Charlotte. Clayton Tucker had 11 points and four rebounds, Gregory Seymour had 10 points and nine rebounds, Carrington Dean had seven points and three rebounds and both Shannon Hall and Charaz LaFleur chipped in with six points with six and four rebounds respectively.
