No amnesia problems here

EDITOR, The Tribune

Someone should inform former FNM turned radical PLP supporter Ivoine Ingraham that the Bahamian people, collectively speaking, are not suffering from amnesia. The memory of the maladministration of the previous Christie PLP government is still fresh in the minds of the Bahamian people.

Ivoine Ingraham went out on a limb by publicly defending Canadian billionaire and fashion designer Peter Nygard in the major dailies. Ingraham listed off several philanthropic giveaways by Nygard, apparently not taking into consideration that most wealthy Canadians and Americans give to charities in order to receive massive tax breaks from their respective governments. Most of these rich people don’t give for altruistic reasons. There are often hidden motives involved.

The title of Ingraham’s letter, “Lest we forget,” is loaded with irony, for the simple reason that most thoughtful Bahamians will never forget a video of Nygard giving former PM Perry Christie a profanity-laced tirade. Ingraham and the PLP obviously saw nothing wrong with Nygard’s behaviour. If they did, they never said so publicly. They didn’t want to upset their alleged benefactor.

The Bahamian people cannot forget Nygard and his PLP goons going into Over-the-Hill to publicly confront the Rev Dr C B Moss, because of his opposition to the expansion to Nygard Cay. Under (Ivoine) Ingraham and the PLP, Nygard had far more rights than the average Bahamian. Believe in Bahamians. Yeah right.

And the Bahamian people most definitely cannot forget the two names associated with Nygard that rhymes with “Loggie” and “Dodo.” I am admonishing Mr Ivoine Ingraham to please stop insulting the intelligence of the Bahamian people by taking them for fools. I can see defending Nygard four years removed from the beat down his party received last year. But not a year and some months after the election. That is too soon.
