DPM intervenes at world bank meeting

K Peter Turnquest, deputy prime minister and minister of finance, last week attended the 2018 annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Bali, Indonesia. He is pictured, second right, at a Caribbean Caucus Round Table Discussion.

The Caribbean Round Table talks included Nancy Horsman, IMF executive director, and Christine Hogan, World Bank executive director, for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean. Discussions focused on climate change, building infrastructure resilience and correspondent bank de-risking.

Mr Turnquest made an intervention over the risk to economies of small island states from the loss of correspondent bank relationships, and the threat to small international financial centres (IFCs) from global bodies imposing standards without regard to a country's circumstances or the evenness with which they are applied.
