Culinary team selected as Hunger Ambassadors

The Bahamas National Culinary team has been chosen as the Hands for Hunger Ambassadors for the month of September.

Hands for Hunger, the local non-profit charity, has been working to mitigate hunger by reducing food waste in The Bahamas for almost ten years. Their efforts have resulted in more than 1.5 million pounds of food being rescued and redistributed to those in need through a vast network of affiliated agencies in New Providence.

The National Culinary Team recently represented The Bahamas at the prestigious Taste of The Caribbean annual competition, hosted by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) in Miami.

Apart from the competition and arduous training schedule, facilitated by the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), and private and public sector partners, the team provides mentorships to fellow cooks, both experienced and starting out.

The National Culinary Team has also helped educate children about healthy eating at Cable Bahamas' Back to School Event. Team members also provided meals to displaced persons who were forced to seek shelter due to Hurricane Irma in 2017.

The National Culinary Team will be presenting a variety of Bahamian treats at the upcoming Hands for Hunger Paradise Plates event on Saturday, September 29, at Atlantis. Their efforts are supported by Cable Bahamas.
