THE PRESS BOX: Cowboy nation, it’s time to give Garrett ‘The Clapper’ the axe

By INIGO 'NAUGHTY ZENICAZELAYA

AFTER another nauseating performance by my Dallas Cowboys this past Sunday, the cries for head coach Jason Garrett, alias “The Clapper”, to be axed grows even louder throughout Cowboys nation.

It has already been speculated that former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator, and current Cowboys DB’s coach Kris Richard will become Rod Marinelli’s successor to become the Dallas Cowboys next defensive coordinator.

Marinelli in fact contemplated retirement after the completion of the 2017 season, but decided to give it another go in 2018. Who knows what Marinelli will do at the end of this season.

Richard already has an excellent résumé and good track record as a DC from his time with the Seattle Seahawks (2015-2017).

The Seahawks’ infamous ‘Legion of Boom’ defence had one of the better units in the league over those three seasons.

Thus Cowboys fans are fired up about what he can do in Dallas.

I personally feel he was brought to Dallas, not just to rejuvenate the defence, but potentially audition for the head coach position, especially if incumbent head coach Jason ‘the Clapper’ Garrett, falters yet again in getting the ‘Boys to the postseason.

Take a closer look at the hiring of Richard by the Dallas Cowboys.

Richard is one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the league, and is highly respected amongst his peers around the NFL. There is definitely more to this hiring. One has to ask the question, would Richard really take a step back from being DC to become the DB coach/passing game coordinator in Dallas?

Jerry Jones is an awesome salesman.

He obviously convinced Richard that a huge career opportunity may be waiting in the wings for him sometime soon.

Before agreeing to join the Cowboys, Richard interviewed for the head-coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts. To already be considered a head-coaching candidate exemplifies the rise to Richard’s career.

So replacing a failing Garrett mid-season, if necessary, is plausible.

It’s no secret Garrett and crew are on thin ice this season.

If he doesn’t at least get the Dallas Cowboys into the playoffs this year, he could be looking for a new job, which would create a vacancy at head coach. This could be the kind of opportunity Kris Richard is looking for.

Let’s be real, from what I’ve seen the first three weeks of the NFL season, someone is going to have to replace Jason Garrett if he fails again, this season.

Sooner or later.

Kris Richard is a no brainer. And I’m all fairness, it’s the exact same way Garrett became head coach of the Cowboys when he replaced Wade Phillips, mid-season after the ‘Boys started 1-7 under Phillips.

History may be getting ready to repeat itself in ‘Big D.’
