Sammy Hunter concluded his prep basketball career, recognised as one of the top players in Canada.

Hunter finished with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals for “Team White” in their 131-120 loss to “Team Red” at the BioSteel All-Canadian Game at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport in Toronto, Canada.

This season, for the British Colombia Christian Prep Panthers, Hunter averaged 27 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game.

According to the organisation, “the All Canadian Basketball Games feature the top 24 male and female Canadian high school basketball players who are either Canadian-born or enrolled in a Canadian institution. The top 24 athletes come to Toronto to work with Canadian coaches and trainers in a series of events including on-and-off court training, practices and scrimmages in front of NBA scouts and GMs, community outreach, the Nike Skills Challenge, and the Boys and Girls All Canadian Games.”

The BioSteel All Canadian Games are an NBA sanctioned event, drawing representation from over 90% of NBA teams.

Hunter committed to join the Ole Miss Rebels basketball programme for the Fall 2019 campaign as he makes his transition to NCAA Division I basketball.

He decided on the Rebels between his final three of the Oklahoma Sooners and Kansas State Wildcats.

He was the third Bahamian to join Ole Miss basketball within the last year. Franco Miller Jr signed with Ole Miss in the 2018 class , the women’s basketball program is also headed by Yolett McPhee-McCuin. McPhee-McCuin then went on to sign Valerie Nesbitt to the 2019 class.

Hunter verbally committed to head coach Kermit Davis and joins a talented incoming class for the 2019 season that already includes Antavion Collum, Rodney Howard, and Bryce Williams.

At the Bahamas Basketball Federation’s Summer of Thunder, Hunter finished with 19 points and eight rebounds against Notre Dame and followed with 18 points and five rebounds against North Carolina.

Hunter also competed at home last November with BC Prep at the Caribbean Tip-Off Classic, where he averaged 33 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

He also made his senior men’s national team debut in July at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.

On the junior national team level, Hunter was also a member of the 2016 CBC U16 Championship team when he averaged 12 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and the 2017 Centrobasket U17 Championship team when he averaged 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
