High school basketball season continues with a new venture spearheaded by the Street Legends organisation.

The Caribbean Kings High School Basketball Championships will be hosted April 15-20 at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium. The tournament will be played in a double elimination tournament and include programmes from New Providence and countries around the Caribbean.

Local senior boys schools expected to compete include the CR Walker, South Andros, Queen’s College, Agape, Teleos, Doris Johnson, Government High School, Akephran, CC Sweeting, St Augustine’s, CV Bethel, Anatol Rodgers and St John’s.

Visiting teams include the British Virgin Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis and Turks and Caicos.

Street Legends organiser Wilton Russell said the tournament acts as a showcase for young student-athletes.

“We wanted to try to think beyond the shores of The Bahamas itself we wanted to try and bring in some other countries through basketball. We can sse what these other teams look like and we can gauge with all of our local schools here and enhance our product,” he said.

“We have a number of scouts confirmed from throughout the US. They are excited to some down and see the product. We want to have all of the Caribbean islands in one country and have a central point to see all of these scouts to see this talent.”

Admission all week long is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
