The youth arm of Christ The King Anglican Church will join other ministries to pause and reflect on the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ during Holy Week.

The youth ministry will be hosting a special production titled “The Trial: The People vs Jesus of Nazareth”. The production will commemorate the start of Holy Week and reenact pivotal moments that led to Jesus being put on trial.

The public invited to join the youth department for this presentation. It will be held at the Murillo Bonaby Parish Centre, Ridgeland Park, on April 14 at 7pm.

This is the first production of this kind that the youth department has hosted. In the past, Christ The King would present an Easter cantata featuring the ministry of music on Easter night. This year, however, the youth department decided to go with something different.

“The (young people) wanted to bring a special emphasis on the Passion week and the significance of the events that took place before Easter,” said Odia Richardson, youth leader.

“The production takes place in a modern day courtroom similar to the People’s Court. The cast is comprised of both modern and biblical characters.”

While the play upholds the seriousness of Jesus’s trial and eventual punishment by crucifixion, “The People vs Jesus of Nazareth” does so by adding hint of humour.

“The witnesses’ accounts of Jesus’ public ministry are especially significant to this play as well as the way we include your typical courtroom humour,” said Ms Richardson.

What makes this production especially significant is that fact that the entire cast is made up of young people ranging from ages 7-19 who will be playing out different roles in the story.

“As with all of our plays, we want the audience to leave entertained. This however being a somber and serious time in the life of the Christian Church, we want the audience to leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation for The Passion of Christ.

“They should join because these young people are offering their talents in service to God,” she told Tribune Religion.
