We need to police the driving public more

EDITOR, The Tribune

The old people would often say when you were “talking fool”, “ain’t no good fa you to beat up ya gums wid dat now” and I could only wonder as social media carried the story of no cell phones and no drinking, “what is the point of adding new offences to the Road Traffic Act when the huge number that already exists are not being enforced and unlikely to be enforced in the lifetime of anyone living today” ?

It would make interesting reading to see the actual statistics of people charged with Road Traffic Offences fifty years ago and those charged today. And the far fewer today DOES NOT mean that people are driving any better today, it just means that no one is being charged. There has been a total collapse of policing the driving public since before the last election but any day you go into a Police Station, a plethora of officers are buzzing about, seemingly very busy with something. The TV’s are all going of course and the air conditioning is piping.

And we wonder why people just do whatever the hell they want to do today ?.

We have zero discipline but we need zero tolerance.

Minister Dames !!!! You’re up to bat !
