THE University of The Bahamas Mingoes women’s softball team allowed the Wildcats to score eight runs in the second inning as the defending NPSA champions Wildcats ended the game in three innings 15-0 Tuesday night in the Bankers Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

The Mingoes allowed three runs in the opening inning but the Wildcats bats coupled with several defensive errors in the third put the game too far out of reach.

Thela Jonson picked up the win through all three innings with five strikeouts, no walks and one hit.

Kevinique Stubbs got the loss through three innings as well with one strikeout, three walks and eight hits.

She was responsible for the 15 runs as well. “It was a total lack of defence from various players in the second inning,” head coach Shane Albury said.

“Players were playing in positions they don’t normally play but they still needed to know what to do with the ball.

“Many players just weren’t aware of what was going on. It was a lack of communication and a lack of defence.”

Mingoes face Strikers 7pm August 13 in the Bankers Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
