THE Bahamas Basketball Federation’s 2019 Summer of Thunder Basketball Tournament closed out on a high note on Monday night with the Bahamas Women’s All-Stars knocking off the visiting York University Lions out of Toronto, Canada.

In the lone women’s game played at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium to complete the month-long series of exhibition games between visiting men’s teams against local sides, the Bahamas roared past the Lions 62-58.

Marvia Dean came off the bench and led two other players in double figures with a game-high 16 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 4-for-8 from the free-throw line in 19 minutes and 29 seconds. She also pulled down seven rebounds.

Forward Leasha Grant contributed 13 points with 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals in her starting role and centre Britenique Harrison added 10 points, five rebounds and three block shots.

Tiffany Wildgoose also scored seven points with five rebounds and four steals, Karolyn Baptiste had six points and both Anastacia Moultie and Chrishanda Rahming chipped in with four points and five and three rebounds respectively.

The Bahamas, coached by Diasti Delancy and Devon Johnson, trailed 26-16 at the end of the first quarter and went into the locker room at the half, facing a 38-29 deficit.

In the third quarter, the Bahamas out-scored the Lions 11-10 and went on a 22-10 spurt in the fourth to seal the deal.

York University got a side high 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals from Katina Collins-Samuels, 14 points, five rebounds and three steals from Lauren Golding and 12 points from Emma Jonas. York is coached by Erin McAleenan. The Bahamas women’s All-Stars joined the national champions Commonwealth Bank Giants as the only local teams to prevail in the tournament, winning two of the five games they played.
