THROUGH HER small business, it is Jacqueline Hewitt’s goal to encourage healthy lifestyles among Bahamians.

She believes businesses like her “Titter Lou’s Herbal Kitchen” are a modern-day return to the use of traditional herbal bush medicine and a move away from imported chemical products.

Her intent is to also one day make her very own black castor oil, and cold press coconut oil instead of importing from another Caribbean island. Jacqueline’s desire is to grow to offer wholesale products to health and beauty supply stores, spas, hotels and salons.

Titter Lou’s Herbal Kitchen is known to make skin and hair products from plants sourced locally where possible, along with natural preservatives and essential oils. All products are naturally coloured from herbs and fruits, and no artificial dyes are used.

“I started this business about 18 months ago. I started making soaps and shampoos for my own use about three years ago. My friends tried my shampoo and were so impressed they encouraged me to make it for sale. My goal is to have my products known throughout The Bahamas. We offer everything from shampoos, soaps, body wash, and facial creams, to healing balm, toothpaste, deodorant, herbal hair growth oil, herbal hair grease, leave in conditioner and coconut oil,” said the Andros-based native.

She said the hair products are designed to fight dandruff, as well as thicken, strengthen, moisturise and promote growth of hair. The soaps are known to fight acne, eczema, dark spots, wrinkles, tighten and give the skin a healthy tone and glow. The healing balm is designed to treat burns and diaper rash; and the facial cream treat extra dry skin and also promote a healthy tone and glow.

“I have had numerous return customers who have told me that my products have worked where prescribed and over the counter pharmacy medicines have failed. Diaper rash has healed with in one week from my products when using cream for two months have fail to reach result. Many of my customers have told me that they love how my products are natural and not just by name because they feel and see the difference when used.

“I am available to ship my products to Nassau and around the Bahamas from South Andros on a weekly basis. Titter Lou’s Herbal Kitchen is also at the Farmers Market on Gladstone Road every two weeks on a Saturday where I can engage with my customers,” said Jacqueline.
