AFTER back-to-back weekends of lighthearted competition, the champion of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf Next Play Cup has been announced.

Sybil Strachan Primary rose to victory from a group of 29 public and private school competitors.

The finals, which were held December 7 at the national stadium, saw the champions face off against Thelma Gibson Primary in an exciting display of skill and sportsmanship.

Team Strachan secured their win with a final score of 3-0.

The final match was followed by a junkanoo rush-out and official awards ceremony with Roger Archer, Scotiabank vice president and district head of Caribbean North, handing out the medals.

“We were elated to have won and the kids were so excited,” said coach Clara Storr of Sybil Strachan Primary.

“We are grateful to Scotiabank that took on the opportunity to support this initiative from providing uniforms to equipment. The tournament gave the children an opportunity to not only build camaraderie but also to develop good sportsmanship.”

Over 2,000 boys and girls ages 10 to 11 participated in the tournament which featured a total of 224 schools within the Caribbean.
