GOVERNOR General Dame Marguerite Pindling paid a visit to centenarian Doris Gomez as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs Gomez, a former seamstress and interior decorator, was regaled for her deep love and care for her family, entrepreneurial nature, and national pride.

While abroad in Detroit, she worked as a wardrobe mistress for TV broadcaster Jean Roach and later Hollywood silver screen star Ginger Rogers. She returned home in 1968 and opened a dry goods store.

“Her love and care for family proved her devotion and charity to all she came in contact with,” read one tribute.

“To this day, Doris cares for family until her final days on earth - she is and will always be remembered for how she makes us feel, because we are graced with her love and care.”

Also present to congratulate Mrs Gomez at her home, among family and friends, were Speaker of the House of Assembly Halson Moultrie and Pastor Timothy Stuart.
