The boiling frog syndrome in Christians

By MINISTER KEITH EVANS

One of the things I love about God is His righteous judgement that will be on display on the last day. Heaven and Hell are real places that will be our homes for all eternity.

Daniel 12:2: “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.” Matthew 25:46: “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” Romans 2:6-8: “Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath.”

I want to bestow a most important theological doctrine upon you that will change your life forever: Judgement! Heaven or Hell! To maintain any proclivity to sin and to indulge in the war of attrition that will keep you out of God’s will for your life.

Sin is toxic! Let me draw your attention to the frog and pot of boiling water. If you put a frog into a pot of boiling water it will immediately jump out. However, if you were to put a frog in a pot of water over a stove that is turned off and leave it there, the frog would feel comfortable and complacent, not recognising that danger is near. Turn the stove on and gradually turn up the heat. Guess what happens next? Well, the frog is not cognizant that it is in a hostile environment. It does not perceive the danger and is slowly being cooked to death.

The same can be said of the believer who is living in or tolerating sin. We have the propensity to take sin for granted, not realising it’s dire ramifications. Just like the frog, the believer’s compromises on sin show an attitude of impassivity. Numbers 32:23: “But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.”

To be in this compromising disposition is very dangerous. We must live holy as Christians. Unfortunately, we’ve been bombarded with the Americanised version of Christianity through the prosperity gospel, which has caused a plethora of Christians to turn to a lifestyle of unabashed in sin. Adultery, homosexuality and gambling have seem to become the norm for some within the four walls of God’s house. Some of these people are even actively involved in ministry, preaching, singing, dancing in ministry, which has peeved the true believer.

This here is by no means an message of condemnation, but of love and admonishment. It’s time to get right! Hebrews 10:26-29: “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. But a certain fearful looking for of judgement and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much more punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”

The frog and the pot of boiling water is an illustration of living of comfortably in sin as a Christian. Let’s repent and live right! Heaven is waiting for you. And Hell is a real place for those that love sin and live in it.
