THE Eugene Dupuch Law School held a relocation ceremony yesterday to commemorate its new premises on Rosetta Street and to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Attorney General Carl Bethel, QC, said it was an honour and pleasure to participate in the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Eugene Dupuch Law School.

Mr Bethel said: “(This) is a campus worthy of the name, of the great Eugene Dupuch.

“I think it is a cross off the backs of the principal and all of those 500 students who laid within that other place for so many years. It's a testament to governance...it is very satisfying to see how well Eugene Dupuch Law School has over its 20 years of existence upheld and emanated the vision of the Council of Legal Education and of those visionaries of our part in the government of which I served that wish to bring the CLE here and to establish legal education – proper legal education in The Bahamas.”

Tonya Bastian Galanis says a few words.

Tonya Bastian Galanis, principal, said despite the hardships of the institution's history she is so grateful to have seen the growth within the institution.

She said: “Now with all of our services housed under one roof with ready access to each other with more robust technology to facilitate teaching and learning and all of our other operations. We are so grateful that we are finally here."

Chairman Reginald Armour said the accomplishment was a joyous celebration.

Mr Armour said: “I can’t begin to explain what great pleasure it gives me to be here this morning and to be here on the occasion, not just of the 20th anniversary of the Eugene Dupuch Law School, but significantly to be delivering these remarks from the school’s new premises at Rosetta Street.”

The Eugene Dupuch Law school is named after the well known lawyer and politician, the late, Hon. Eugene Dupuch, QC. This is the third and most established law school of the Council of Legal Education in the Caribbean. The Council of Legal Education was created by a treaty signed and ratified by countries in the Caribbean Community.

If it’s true that this school has trained 500 Bahamian lawyers, it should be relocated to the bottom of the harbour.
