Cliff Resais and Donovan Storr, two of the Bahamian connection at Southeastern Louisiana, competed at the 2019 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships which concluded on Monday.

In his double duties on the track at the Birmingham CrossPlex, Resais sped to a second place finish in the first of two heats in the final of the 200 metres. His time of 21.29 seconds enabled him to place fourth overall.

Resais, now in his senior year, won his heat in the preliminaries in 21.58 to qualify for the final in the fourth fastest time as well.

Jo’vaughn Martin, a freshman at Sam Houston, had the fastest qualifying time of 21.00 and won the final in 20.94.

Resais also contested the 60m where he placed third in the second of five heats in 6.88, but it was only good for 10th overall as he failed to advance to the final.

Storr, in his junior year, posted the fastest time of 47.68 to win his heat and the overall top spot in the final. But after a protest was lodged, it was discovered that he impeded another runner and was disqualified.

Storr, a 6-foot-3 native from Andros, had advanced to the final after he won the seventh of nine heats in 48.00 for the second fastest time.

Webster Slaughter, a sophomore at Lamar, had the fastest qualifying time of 47.92. After Storr’s DQ, Slaughter was moved up to the top spot in 47.76.

Resais and Storr also teamed up to run on SLU’s 4 x 400m relay team that placed second in the final.

The other two members of the team were DJ Ruffin and Tahrike Jones.

The other two Bahamians on SLU’s team are sprinters Angel Collie and Kendesha Ingraham, but neither of them competed in the meet over the weekend.

Laquan Nairn third

In the 2019 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center, Arkansas’ Laquan Nairn turned in a personal best of 16.03 metres or 52-feet, 7 1/4-inches for a third place finish in the men’s triple jump.

Nairn, now in his junior year, ended up sixth in the long jump with a leap of 7.67 metres on day one of the championships.

Ian Kerr sprint double

At the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Alamosa, Colorado, Adams State’s sprinter Ian Kerr made the podium in both the men’s 60 and 200m.

Kerr’s best performance came in the 200m where he clocked 21.40 for the title and eventually broke his own RMAC Championship meet record of 21.54 that he set the day before.

In the 60m, Kerr got to the final where he placed third in 6.91.

Raygene Minus second

At the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Tusculum’s Raygene Minus picked up a second place finish in the women’s 400m in 58.32 after she was also second in the preliminaries in 58.32.

Minus fell short of advancing to the final of the 200m after she placed ninth in 26.28 and she also ran on their 4 x 400m relay team that got second in the final in 3:57.65.

Krystal Mitchell outdoor win

The outdoor season got started this weekend for Central State at the Columbus State Invitational where Krystal Mitchell took the tape in the women’s 100m in 12.36 as she extended her winning streak to four straight dating back to March of 2018.

Mitchell, now in her sophomore year, got second in the 200m in 25.65 as Central State got their outdoor season started.

She then teamed up with A’Yanna O’Neal, Denise Monday and Jordan Stafford to take the victory in the 4 x 400m relay in 1:09.38.
