GRAND Bahama police are searching for a male driver after a traffic stop led to a police chase which ended in a crash and the discovery of an illegal firearm in Freeport.

ASP Terecita Pinder said shortly before 3pm on Thursday, traffic police in the downtown area saw a grey coloured 2011 Infiniti vehicle parked unattended in the street with the engine running.

She said while officers were making a necessary check of the vehicle, a man came out of a restaurant, got into the car and sped off. The officers gave chase and the vehicle crashed in the area of the Tasman Close and Adventurers Way, where the suspect escaped on foot.

A 9mm pistol with six live rounds of ammunition was discovered in the vehicle.

Meanwhile, police in Grand Bahama have also said they want to speak with 32-year-old Tony Jamal Smith, also known as Jamal Penn aka “Fool” who they believe can help with an investigation in connection with possession of an illegal firearm.

Mr Smith is 5’7” of average build, weighing 188 pounds, with a medium brown complexion. His last known address is Kelly Lane, off Johnson Road, New Providence and Tarry Town, Grand Bahama.

Anyone with information is asked to call police in Grand Bahama at 350-3107 through 12, 911, 919, or the nearest police station.
