A 29-year-old man was charged in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday over allegations he choked and attempted to kill a woman on whom he used a rusty cutlass to rob of her cellphone last week.

Darrell Bain, aka “Tallboy” and “Scaredem”, is further accused of breaking into another woman’s house last summer, choking her and robbing her at knifepoint of her car worth $3,000.

Concerning the first charges, it is alleged he used a rusty machete to rob Lashantia Clarke of her silver iPhone 6 worth $280 on January 14.

He is further charged with garroting, in that he choked Clarke with the intent to render or attempt to render her unconscious, insensible, or physically incapable of resisting. He also attempted to kill Clarke on that date, prosecutors have charged.

Months prior, on June 27, 2018, Bain is alleged to have broken into the Blanche Moss’ home on Petticoat Lane, robbed her at knifepoint of her 2003, silver Toyota Will worth $3,000, and also choked her to render her incapable of resisting.

The Dean Street native was not required to enter a plea to the charges when arraigned before Magistrate Ambrose Armbrister and the matter was adjourned to March 8 for service of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

Bail was denied and he was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in the interim. He has the right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
