THE PRESS BOX: ‘The numbers don’t lie, Pacquiao won’

By INIGO 'NAUGHTY' ZENICAZELAYA

I’VE been a boxing aficionado my entire life.

Ali, Foreman, Norton, Spinks, Leonard, to Duran, Hagler, Hearns, Whitaker, to Camacho, Chavez, Bowe, Lewis, Klitschko, to De La Hoya, Moseley, Hopkins, to Pacquiao, Mayweather ..... and the list goes on and on. (No need to question my pedigree as a boxing fan.)

I watched many a fight, and witnessed several post fight meltdowns from losing fighters, but last week, four-time champion in four different weight classes, Adrien Broner, took it to a whole new level!

Broner insisted he had been the deserved victor during a ratchet post-fight interview, after losing to Manny Pacquiao.

Broner was convincingly defeated by the 40-year-old Filipino, with all three judges’ score cards awarding a clear win to the multiple world champion Pacquiao.

“Bring your mother f ass over here, I got a lot to say,” Broner said to an approaching Showtime announcer Jim Grey, who warned the fighter immediately, the network would not tolerate such obscenities.

“We’re gonna conduct this professionally or we’re not gonna have an interview. You make the decision,” Grey said, continuing seamlessly into his next question: “What did you think about the fight?”

“I beat him, everybody out there know I beat him,” Broner clapped back.

“Everybody out there know I beat him, I controlled the fight, he was missing, I hit him plenty more times. I beat him.”

Whoa, whoa, whoa there Mr Broner, you need to get re-evaluated. I fear you maybe seriously concussed, because despite being in the ring you obviously were in a different fight in a different dimension.

• Here’s the actual post fight numbers, courtesy of Compubox, for those of you who may be ‘punch drunk’ supporting Boner and his lunacy.

Pacquiao upped his body & jab attack vs. Broner, as 42% of his landed punches were body shots after landing 20.2% in his previous five fights.
