WITH their full squad out, Bees Trucking Lady Angels avenged one of their two losses so far in the season to the Lady Saints with a rout of their own behind the 1-2 punch of Chrishandra Rahming and Britenique Harrison.

The Lady Angels pulled off a 68-55 win over the Lady Saints, following the easy 51-44 decision by their junior team, Foxxie Angels, over the Lady Cheetahs in the New Providence Women’s Basketball Association’s regular season double header at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Saturday night.

Lady Destroyers 68,

Lady Saints 55

Chrishandra Rahming, in 29 minutes and 57 seconds, canned 15 points with six rebounds and Britenique Harrison, in 25:31 minutes, contributed 13 points, a game high 11 rebounds, three block shots and two steals.

Shaniqua Thompson was their next best scorer with eight points and three assists. Garcia Hanna had seven points, five rebounds and two assists and Ashley Moss (three assists, two steals and two blocks), Shandea (eight and two assists) and Chyna Curry all helped out with six points.

The Lady Destroyers took control of the game from the first quarter when they went ahead 16-11. By the half, they were ahead 33-23. At the end of the third, they extended their margin to 49-37.

The Saints tried to make a run for it in the fourth, but it was a little too late. The Destroyers had a little too much firepower inside the paint to take advantage on both sides of the court to seal the deal.

“This one was good. The last time they blew us out because we didn’t have our full team,” said Lady Destroyers’ coach Donnie Culmer as they climbed to 9-2 to remain on top of the league standings. “We only had six players and they run us to the ground.”

What a difference a game make. Now Bees Trucking is clicking on all cylinders and Culmer said that could spell trouble for their rivals the rest of the season.

“Tonight, we had everybody out. I had a full bench, I had who I needed and we did what we had to do to win,” he stated. “If we can continue this way, we should be able to close out the season strong and get into the playoffs and go for a four-peat.”

Alexandria Marshall had a game high 16 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Lady Saints. Taniel Poitier had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and as many steals; Shadell Williams had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals and Tanica Joseph also finished with 10 points.

“At the end of the day, we felt down the stretch because we didn’t box out and play defense,” said Lady Saints’ assistant coach Barrington Carter. “I don’t feel like the other team is that much better than us.,

“We just didn’t come out and execute the way we should. Things like that happen some time. We just have to go back to the drawing board and execute our game plan next time.”

Angels 51, Cheetahs 44: Denika Lightbourne, who helped to control the tempo of the game, led a balanced Foxxie’s scoring attack with 11 points, four rebounds, four steals and three steals in 22:28 minutes.

Latavia Brennen pumped in nine points with a side high 11 rebounds; Antonicia Moultrie came off the bench and also contributed nine points with eight rebounds and two blocks. Karolyn Baptiste made her presence felt with just three points, but she had five rebounds and five steals.

Michelle Butler (three rebounds), Veronique Charlton (three rebounds and three steals) and Ajani Culmer (two rebounds and a steal) chipped in with four points.

“We got back better than we played the last game,” said Foxxie’s head coach Anthony Swaby as they improved to 6-4. “It was good, despite who they were playing, they played much better in a system.”

Swaby said as the season progresses, he anticipate that his second year team will only get better and if they can surpass their fourth place and first round exit in the playoffs last year, he will be even more contented.

The Angels used a 12-1 spurt to start the game and ended up posting a 20-8 margin as the first quarter concluded. They used another 10-7 in the second quarter to extend their margin to 30-15 at the half.

Every run the Lady Cheetahs made in the third, the Angels had an answer as they out-scored them 17-15.

But in the fourth, the Lady Cheetahs made a last dash to on a 14-4 tear that only put a dent into the Angels’ lead.

In a losing effort, Kieshawna Mather exploded for a game high 17 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Albernisha Rox had 11 points, seven steals and six rebounds.

Erin Williams was a tower of strength inside with eight points, pulled down a game high 16 rebounds and blocked five shots.

“They gave a valiant effort tonight,” said Lady Cheetahs’ coach Anastacia Moultrie as they dropped to 1-6. “This is a very young team. This is the first time in the league. We just put this team together at the last minute to add to the league, so it’s a work in progress.”

Moultrie said the team is a work in progress and so any performance she can get from the players is satisfactory for her.
