Without vision, the people perish

EDITOR, The Tribune

WHY are we back to a situation we only recently faced, that of having an Acting Chief Justice for an unknown period of time. The facile answer from the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary that he will appoint one “in due course “ is cold comfort to citizens of a country which seems to be spinning out of control.

Kudos to the Acting Chief Justice for pointing out at the opening of the Legal Year the problems which emanate from the lack of a substantive CJ. As noted in the editorial in the Nassau Guardian surely there was a short list when the last CJ was appointed? Why should the process be protracted?

On another subject why are we still involved in seeking an agreement with Oban. Not only were we as citizens uncomfortable with the officials of the company, at a time when progressive administrations are seeking alternatives to fossil fuels, why are we embracing this oil based industry on Grand Bahama?

Bahamians are also wondering, in the light of the distressing news concerning the endangerment of the Bahama grouper and our conch, why are we not trying to preserve these national treasures with grouper and conch farms?

I can only think that without vision the people perish.
