THE Jordan Prince Williams Falcons junior girls outscored the defending champions St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine 8-4 in the extra five minutes to secure a hard fought 42-39 victory at St Augustine’s College.

Meanwhile, the Falcons’ senior boys held off the Big Red Machine for a 47-35 decision at Jordan Prince Williams in a match-up of the two schools as the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools continued its regular season action on Monday.

Veronaye Charlton scored four of her game high 24 points in overtime as Jordan Prince Williams pulled away from a 34-34 tie at the end of regulation.

Destinique Moss, who had two points as well in overtime, finished with eight. Trinity Bodie, before fouling out in regulation, had six and Denae Bain, who scored the other two points in OT, contributed four points.

When it was all said and done, both teams are now tied at 4-2 in the league standings.

“It was a pretty good game. The girls wanted it. That is why we won the game,” said Jordan Prince Williams’ coach Hattie Moxey. “You have to want it. What you put in, you will get out. If you put nothing in it, you will get nothing. SAC is a team that never say die and so it was good to beat them at home. We are on par. There are four teams in the league and on any given time, anyone can win. It’s just who wants it the most. We wanted it more today and we won.”

Antonia Moultrie, who came up with all four of SAC’s points in OT on 4-of-6 shots from the foul line, led their attack with 17 points. Bommeka Hepburn helped out with 14 points before fouling out. Orielle Johnson had three points and both Shakirah Clarke and Kai Sweeting added two apiece.

“Every time we got into the game, we threw away the ball,” said SAC’s assistant coach John Todd. “The girls ain’t focused. If they can stay focused, ain’t no one can beat us. We are the defending champions and we can’t be focused.”

SAC opened the game with a 12-11 run in the first quarter as Moultrie and Hepburn provided a 1-2 punch with six and four points respectively. However, Jordan Prince Williams surged ahead 19-18 at the half, thanks to Charlton’s six points.

In the third quarter, Hepburn powered inside for eight points to help push the Big Red Machine ahead 28. But in the fourth, the Falcons got four points from Charlton and a big three-pointer from Moss to force the tie at the end of regulation.

Despite being double teamed, Charlton still managed to break away and took control of the Falcons’ destiny as they surged to the victory.
