Crime in The Bahamas does not affect tourism

EDITOR, The Tribune

Educated statements of Ministers are supposed to be the norm, but week after week, we hear what can only be described as political mumbo-jumbo – verbal rubbish unfounded and unsupported by facts.

More crime means less tourism – totally unfounded, just look at Jamaica, which has declared very openly emergencies in many districts, across their island and Jamaica Tourism has boomed.

Look at Mexico - horrific fights between rival drug cartels - brutal killing of police and officials. Mexico has an exceptional tourism!

Doesn’t the Ministers know the profile of the usual visitor? The highest number head to Atlantis or Baha Ma on a Thursday and leave on the Sunday or Monday a 3-4 days visit…rarely will they leave those mega resorts - crime has not and cannot affect their great success, The family islands, the same where more and more stay in private villas and apartments through AirBnB and similar services…no problems.

Crime in The Bahamas does not affect tourism…crime does affect us who live here and are tired of the norm of the Police. This is an island 21x7 and the police cannot keep crime down to an acceptable level the old fashion way. You know where the criminals are! Go get them!
