TWO men who previously stood trial over two separate murders have been discharged from allegedly causing harm to a fellow inmate at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services last year.

Jahmaro “Bingy” Edgecombe and Anthony “Peanut” Bethel were both charged with causing harm to William Etienne on October 9, 2018 while at the Fox Hill facility.

Edgecombe was convicted in April of murdering Kenyari Lightbourne in his Woods Alley neighbourhood three years ago. Bethel is awaiting his second trial over allegations he murdered 21-year-old Georgette Rahming on May 26, 2015.

Etienne, meanwhile, is charged with murdering Alvin Strachan in an East Street web shop in August of last year.

Yesterday, both Edgecombe and Bethel were due to stand trial over the allegations. However, the prosecutor, Sergeant Bridgette Strapp, indicated the Crown’s intent to withdraw the charges pursuant to Section 230 2(b)2 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).

Thus, Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans discharged the pair of the offence.
