Bahamas suffer 6-0 loss to Cuba in Little League tourney

The Junior Baseball League of Nassau team representing the Bahamas at the 2019 Caribbean Zone Little League Tournament in Willemstad, Curacao, suffered a heartbreaking 6-0 loss to Cuba yesterday.

Unfortunately, the JBLN players didn’t have an answer for the Cuban pitcher who fired a perfect game, striking out 17 Bahamian batters in six innings. The loss dropped JBLN to 2-2 and now out of contention of qualifying to represent the Caribbean at the 2019 Little League World Series, scheduled for next month in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Today, JBLN is scheduled to play their final game starting at 10am against the Dominican Republic as they complete competition in Pool B.

In their previous games played this week, JBLN loss 7-3 in their opener to Curacao B on Saturday. They rebounded to blank Bonaire 15-0 on Sunday and whitewashed Antigua & Barbuda 11-0 on Monday.

Members of the team are Javado Bain, Alexander Eneas, Teagan Coleby, Nathan Miller, Anthony Miller Jr, Chozen Brown, Arthur Rolle, Durwuan Stuart, Bohan Adderley, Kenny Moxey Jr, Anaan Rahming, William Darling, Dantae Clarke and Vincent Knowles.

The team is being coached by Javier Bowe, Kenny Mondesir and Elvardo Miller.

JBLN was awarded the trip by virtue of winning the Bahamas Baseball Association’s National Championships in Eleuthera, winning the title with an 11-1 rout over the Grand Bahama Little League.

Following the completion of the round-robin, the semi-finals will be played on Friday and the tournament concludes on Saturday.

The champions will earn the rights to represent the Bahamas at the Little League World Series August 15-25.
