Police look into spate of armed robberies

POLICE are investigating a spate of weekend armed robberies across New Providence.

In two separate incidents early Sunday morning, men and women were held at bay by armed robbers who stole cash and other items.

The first incident took place shortly before 1am, according to police.

“Two men and a woman were at Tyler Street, Chippingham, when they were approached by a gunman who held them at bay and robbed them of cash and other items before making good his escape,” police said.

In the second incident, three armed men forced their way into a home on Coconut Grove Avenue shortly before 5am. The men stole cash and cellphones before escaping.

On Saturday, there was an attempted armed robbery at Burger King on Tonique Williams-Darling highway. The armed man entered the restaurant and demanded cash shortly after 9pm. According to police, the man discharged his weapon and escaped into the nearby area without taking anything.

However, a source confirmed to the Tribune that an unspecified amount of cash was taken.

Police released a sketch of a man wanted for questioning for armed robbery on Friday.

The unknown man was said to have dark brown skin, medium build, and between 5’10 and 6 ft tall. The suspect is believed to be between 35 to 45 years old.
