UB Mingoes fall to 1-2 with loss to defending NPSA champions Wildcats

THE University of The Bahamas Mingoes women’s softball team lost to the NPSA defending champions Wildcats 20-4 on Tuesday night in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

The Mingoes trailed the Wildcats 8-4 going into the 5th inning. In the 5th, the Wildcats batted around the order, scoring 12 runs to go up 20-4. The Mingoes were starting a comeback in the bottom of the inning but could only muster one run.

Thela Johnson picked up the win through all five innings with five strikeouts, six walks and three hits.

Kevinique Stubbs got the loss through five innings as well with one strikeout, 13 walks and eight hits. She was responsible for 14 runs as well.

“We went through two pitchers and when they were making the pitches that we needed, defence fell apart,” said head coach Shane Albury. “So it was a combination of lack of pitching and a lack of defence.”

Lashanda Bethell went 2-4 with 2 RBI and three runs for the Wildcats. Shera Woodside also went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs.

Donnette Edwards went 2-3 with three RBI and one run. Stubbs, Jodie Clarke and Charlene Symonette all went 1-3 for the Mingoes.

The Mingoes are slated to face the Truckers 7pm Tuesday in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
