They had their consecutive meet title streak broken in 2018, but the CH Reeves Raptors regained their place as the GSSSA junior track and field champions.

The Raptors concluded the two-day meet with 508 points, a 67.5 point margin over the defending champion AF Adderley Tigers, who ended up with 440.50 points yesterday at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium.

The HO Nash Lions finished third with 309 points, the SC McPherson Sharks were fourth with 259 points and the DW Davis Royals rounded out the top five with 206.50 points. The LW Young Golden Eagles were sixth with 183 points, the TA Thompson Scorpions were seventh with 119 points and the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves were eighth with 99 points.

The Raptors saw their winning streak of four consecutive meets come to an end at the hand of the Tigers last year, but won four of the last five meet titles. The last school to win other than the two powerhouses was the LW Young Golden Eagles in 2012.

On the track, Raptors were led by their middle distance runners with several first place finishes in the 800m.

Melvinique Gibson won the under-15 girls’ event in 2:39.84 seconds, followed by Shaniya Smith of SC McPherson (2:40.55) and Desha Pierre of TA Thompson (2:42.35).

The Tigers’ Kantranel Dean continued her series of stellar performances after winning three events on day one.

Dean won the under-13 girls’ 200m in 27.86 followed by Rynique Dolce of LW Young (28.02) and Dashanna Curtis of the Raptors (28.14).

The Raptors took the top two spots in the boys’ under-13 event. Lamonte Butler was first in 27.52 followed by teammate Senen Pintard in 27.98 and Stephen Rahming of HO Nash in 28.95.

The Raptors’ Marquell Newbold took first place in the under-15 girls’ long jump in 4.08m, just ahead of SC McPherson’s Kayzell Stubbs at 4.07m.
