Destroyers get 64-60 win over Angels to take 1-0 lead in series

THE defending champions Bee’s Trucking Destroyers took a 1-0 lead over the Foxy Angels with a 64-60 win as the New Providence Women’s Basketball Association opened its best-of-three championship series at the DW Davis Gymnasium last night.

Britinique Harrison pumped in 15 points, 15 rebounds, three steals and three block shots to lead Bee’s Trucking, coached by Donnie Culmer.

Chrishanda Rahming added 12 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block shot.

Ruthann Simms came off the bench and contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds.

In a losing effort for the youthful Foxy Angels, coached by Anthony Swaby, Veronique Charlton scored a game high 20 points with seven steals, five rebounds and two assists.

Latavia Brennen had 16 points, 14 rebounds, eight steals and two blocks and Michelle Butler finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.

Bees Trucking opened a 14-9 first-quarter lead that they extended to 27-23 at the half.

And they were able to stop in control of the second half, although Foxy Angels made a couple of runs to cut into their deficit.

• Game two in the series is scheduled to be played at 7:30pm on Thursday.
