Breezes High Flyers top Aliv 95-86

THE New Providence Basketball Association got its best-of-five semi-final playoffs started at the AF Adderley Gymnasium over the weekend and there were no surprises in the outcome of the games played.

On Saturday night, the defending division II champions Breezes High Flyers got by the Aliv Bucket 95-86 and, in the division one feature contest, the PJ’s Stingers held off the Discount Distributors Rockets 101-96.

On Friday, the division II pennant winning Your Essential Store Giants defeated the Triple K Stampers 102-72 and division one defending champions and undefeated pennant winning Commonwealth Bank Giants held off the University of the Bahamas Mingoes 79-71.

High Flyers 95,

Aliv 86

Shantoin Pratt exploded for a game high 28 points with seven assists, five steals and five rebounds to lead Breezes to a 1-0 lead in their series.

Jeremy Neely had 23 points, six assists and four rebounds, Dave Davis had 12 points and 13 rebounds, Justin Gardiner came off the bench with 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks and Devontee Gibson also came off the bench with nine points and seven rebounds to help out.

In a losing effort, Dylan Musgrove scored 20 points with 13 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals. Detarrio Thompson contributed 16 points and four rebounds off the bench and James Rolle had 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Stingers 101,

Rockets 96

Eugene Bain pumped in 24 points with 17 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block and Salathiel Dean also had 24 points, 11 rebounds and four assists to lead PJ’s in game one of their series.

All five starters made their contribution as Brian Bain had 14 points, four assists and three rebounds, Devon Ferguson had 14 points, six rebounds and six steals and Randy Gibson had 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.

In a losing effort, Georgio Walkes had a game high 25 points, five rebounds and five assists, Dancel Knowles had 16 points and seven rebounds, Lerecus Armbrister had 12 points, four assists and four steals and Lyndrick Storr came off the bench with 10 points.

YES Giants 102,

Stampers 72

Andrae Calvert scored 18 points with four rebounds to pace Your Essential Store to their series-opening victory.

Anderias Black came off the bench with 15 points and 11 rebounds, Adrian Thompson had 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, Cormardo Seymour had 10 points and seven rebounds and Brandon Strachan added 10 points and four rebounds.

For the losers, Michael Turnquest had a game high 21 points with six rebounds and four steals.

Troy Trembly had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists and Nathaniel Jean came off the bench with nine points and four rebounds.

Giants 79,

Mingoes 71

D’Shon Taylor poured in 17 points with five rebounds, two assists and two steals as Commonwealth Bank stayed undefeated to take their series opener.

Gameliel Rose came off the bench with 16 points and nine rebounds, Michael Bain had 12 points and eight rebounds, Jackson Jacob came off the bench with eight points and five rebounds, so did Jeffrey Henfield with eight points, five rebounds and four assists. In a losing effort, Antwan Bevans had a game high 20 points with six assists and four steals, Donovan Dean had 11 points and six rebounds, Justin Smith had nine points and three rebounds and Romero Cornish had nine points and five rebounds.
