Gospel’s brightest stars to be honoured

ONE of the biggest nights in gospel music takes place tomorrow night with the presentation of the 34th annual Stellar Awards at the Las Vegas Orleans Arena.

The event brings together some of gospel music’s greats. For the first time since 2005, the Stellar Awards telecast will be shown on BET at 8pm and again at 10 pm. Gospel singer/songwriter Kirk Franklin will return to host the show.

There will be appearances by gospel legend Shirley Caesar, as well as Sonya Blakey, VaShawn Mitchell, Sandra “Pepa” Denton (of Salt-N-Pepa), Katlyn Nichol, Jelani Winston, Hezekiah Walker, Phil Thompson, and others.

According to Team Jesus Magazine, the show will feature a “moving posthumous tribute to the undisputed Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, by Kelly Price, Regina Belle and Erica Campbell.” This performance will be followed by a presentation of the Aretha Franklin Icon Award to the family of the late legend.
