Central Bank workers given BISX exposure

A senior Bahamas International Securities Exchange (BISX) executive gave Central Bank employees an insight into its role and functions at their investment information session.

Holland Grant spoke about BISX’s history, functions and day-to-day operations when he addressed the regulator’s employees on April 25, 2019.

Peggy Winder, the Central Bank’s deputy human resources manager, said: “The financial investments presentations were made by various local brokerage houses and investment firms, along with the Bahamas International Securities Exchange, to provide Central Bank employees with information regarding current investment options and investment strategies that they may wish to consider and how the investment market is governed.”

Mr Grant detailed BISX’s role in regulatory and investment education, and outlined his vision for the Bahamian capital markets’ future. He discussed the need for more interaction with shareholders; the movement to electronic Annual General Meetings (AGMs) and proxy voting; and focused on blockchain, cryptocurrencies and programmable securities.

“It was a pleasure to be a part of this seminar. I commend the Central Bank for putting it on and for the other organisations that took part,” Mr Grant said. “It was a completely engaging experience because individuals asked questions during the presentation and after.

“It was evident that the employees of the Central Bank were interested in BISX, the Bahamian capital markets and in making better investment decisions.”
