GRAND Bahama Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding death of Lenward Jermaine Black, whose body was discovered in a truck found in a Freeport canal last week.

Black was a maintenance worker of 14 years at Bahamia Services Ltd, the engineering and maintenance company for Bahamia Subdivisions in Freeport.

According to ASP Terecita Pinder, Black resided at Frobisher Circle, Freeport. She said that investigations are still ongoing.

When The Tribune visited his Frobisher Circle home, a woman believed to be his wife said that she was not up to talking about the tragedy. In the meantime, police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

According to initial reports from police, officers received a report of an apparent drowning in Freeport shortly after 9pm on Tuesday, May 14, after a truck was discovered submerged in a canal in the Bahama Terrace area.

ASP Pinder reported at the time that the Police Marine Unit, with the assistance of a private vessel and crew, was able to remove a white truck from the water and discovered the body of lifeless victim.

The body was taken to Rand Memorial Hospital where doctors pronounced the victim dead.

Johnny Peterson, a supervisor at Bahamia Services, said the news of Black’s death came as a shock to him and colleagues. “He was very a hardworking person and dedicated worker; it was a surprise to everyone,” he said.

Mr Peterson said Black was employed 14 years with the company and so they were also close friends. “We were all close to him; we were like family around here,” he said.

The supervisor said he noticed nothing out of the ordinary in Black’s behaviour in the days prior to the tragedy. “He appeared to be normal as usual everyday,” he said. “He was a quiet fella and did not get in anyone way.”
