CITY BOWLING LEAGUE: Wild-Card Team crowned Champions for first time

THE City Bowling League completed the finals of its playoff round last night with a Wild-Card team making the finals and then being crowned champions for the first time since the concept was introduced in 2013.

In the quarter-finals, Asurewin Pocket Pleasers defeated the Wild-Card team Tenback Strikers-Lee’s Motor Works 3-0 while Wild-Card team Avengers overcame the well-balanced Telco Enterprises 3-1.

Number one ranked Carib Construction and number two ranked Island Game Strokers received a bye into the semi-finals and in the semis, Asurewin overcame Island Game 3-2 while the Avengers surprised the entire league with a 3-0 win over the very powerful Carib Construction team.

All playoff games were the best-of-5 with the championship round being a brawl and having to go six games before the Avengers overcame Asurewin 3.5 to 2.5, thereby becoming the 1st Wild-Card team to make the finals and be also crowned champions.

Greg Taylor and Marcharia McDonald of the Avengers were named co-MVPs as both performed in many clutch situations while averaging 194 over the final six games.

Top scorer for Asurewin was Driskel Rolle with an impressive 203 average for the six-game series.

Alcondo Hepburn chipped in with a 193 average for his six games.
